Artola
Artola is a lovely urbanised area located between Elviria and Calahonda on the
east side of Marbella. It is situated inland but is a short distance from Artola
Beach, which is predominantly a haven for naturists. It is a modern and fresh
area that still has villas and apartments that reflect the authentic Spanish
architecture.
Main Tourist Attractions
For those who love lazing in the sun, Artola Beach is a short walk from the main
urbanised area. It is surrounded by beautiful clean sand dunes and offers a
range of water sports including jet skiing, parasailing and water skiing. It is
one of the few nudist-friendly beaches in the vicinity of Marbella. Golfers will
be in heaven as there are several large courses in the surrounding area
including Cabopino Golf and Santa Maria Golf and Country Club. Other sporting
facilities available in the resort and immediate area include tennis, squash,
badminton and swimming. There are also several gyms for those who need a daily
workout. For those who need their adrenalin rush, nearby Calahonda offers
opportunities to go quad biking and have a wild time on a jeep safari. To keep
the smaller children amused there are several adventure playgrounds situated in
Artola.
Shopping opportunities
There are several small shops and supermarkets within the Artola area and they
cater for the everyday essentials that visitors and residents need. For those
who like to shop until they drop, Elviria has two shopping centres offering a
wealth of items including clothing, jewellery, artwork, pottery and leather
goods. There are also small family-owned boutiques where you can find some
authentic Spanish clothing, shoes, handbags and jewellery. Elviria holds an
outdoor market every Friday where you can find a bargain and practice your
bartering skills. If you still need to feed your shopping habit, Calahonda has
three large commercial shopping centres to choose from.
Eating out and Nightlife
You will find several cafés and restaurants situated within Artola. Due to the
fact that it is a popular area for many different nationalities, you will find
cuisine from countries such as France, Italy and Germany. Of course, there are
the authentic Spanish dishes and Tapas to be had too. Nearby Calahonda has
several fish restaurants that offer a fine selection of freshly caught seafood.
Elviria offers typical Spanish dishes and some Indian and Asian restaurants can
be found here.
Artola is a quiet, predominantly residential urbanised area, and so the evenings
are very low key. Many families and couples enjoy the warm evenings walking
along the beach followed by a meal and some wine in one of the restaurants.
If you prefer to spend dancing the night away, a myriad of nightclubs and discos
can be found in the centre of Marbella, which is a short car ride away. If you
fancy your chances against the House, take a jaunt over to Puerto Banus which
has its own casino and offers entertainment during the summer months.
