La Cala is a luxurious golf resort located inland from the beautiful and busy
town of
Marbella. It is the largest golfing resort in the area with residential
and recreational facilities spanning 1,000 acres. La Cala is a tranquil resort
that is focused on the sport of golf. Residents and visitors can take the 20
minute trip to reach Marbella.
Main Tourist Attractions
Primarily golf centred, this resort offers lovers of the game a chance to play
on three 18 hole golf courses. They are of championship standard and were
designed by Cabell Robinson. Other sporting activities available include tennis,
squash, badminton and football. There is also a health spa where you can relax
and be pampered with many different treatments. For further activities you can
venture into Marbella, where you will find some historical buildings with
beautiful Spanish architecture. There are also the sandy beaches where you can
either relax in the sun or take part in watersports. Activities such as diving,
jet skiing and parasailing can be found along the shoreline. A five minute trip
from Marbella will find you at the millionaire’s playground of
Puerto Banus.
With its large marina and beach, fishing is enjoyed by many here. It also has a
multiplex cinema and a marine observatory.
Shopping Opportunities
There are a few shops and a supermarket available at the resort. Golfers will
love the chance to browse the products in the pro-golf shop. Small family run
businesses close by offer a range of clothing, jewellery, pottery, souvenirs and
art. Marbella has the la Canada shopping centre for those who need some serious
retail therapy. And of course, there is the
Golden mile in Marbella which is
filled with designer brands of clothes and accessories. La Cala is also located
close to Malaga airport where you will find a commercial shopping centre. Other
shopping opportunities can be found in Puerto Banus which has two large shopping
centres.
Eating Out and Nightlife
There is the obligatory 19th hole to be enjoyed at La Cala as well as a fine
range of cafés, bars and restaurants. All serve a range of traditional
Andalusian food and cater for those with a more discerning palate. Cuisine from
France, Italy, America and Mexico are widely available.
You will find that evenings are fairly peaceful at La Cala and there is some
music and live entertainment laid on at the eating establishments for guests to
enjoy. If you prefer a livelier scene, you will find many discos and clubs in
Marbella and Puerto Banus. Puerto Banus is also home to one of the few casinos
in the area and offers a range of entertainment during the summer months.
